22.08.1989 Regular founding
The foundation GRID-Arendal was established in 1989.
§2 Aim
GRID-Arendal is established by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment to strengthen the United Nations through its Environment Programme (UNEP). GRID-Arendal provides services that facilitate UNEPs global communication and information systems. GRID-Arendal contributes to the development of systems for collection and use of science based environmental information, including state of the environment reporting, to enable effective and widespread use of environmental information in decision making and awareness building.
