01.01.1876* Regular founding
Background:
By law of 28 July 1824, a separate Norwegian system of measures and weights was adopted. As a result of this law, a separate metrology chamber was established in Christiania in 1832. The metrology service was reorganized into a directorate through the Act on Metric Measures and Weights of 22.05.1875.
Justervesenet (Norwegian Metrology Service)
Justervesenet (JV) is a governmental agency under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. JV is responsible for the Norwegian metrology infrastructure and for ensuring its national and international acceptance.
JVs tasks and responsibilities are based in the “Law on measurement units, measuring and standard time” (in Norwegian, lov om målenheter, måling og normaltid).

Remarks
* = If a date is denoted with an asterisk (*), this implies that the date is not confirmed.
* = If a name is denoted with an asterisk (*), this implies a direct translation from Norwegian to English. The translation is thus not necessarily the official one (if any exists at all).
Comment to the change-of-name event: Sometimes the old and new name is the same. This occur when the translation to English haven’t taken into consideration minor Norwegian name change.
