Department for central government buildings, security and administrative services was established on 1 August 2012.

The department has the responsibility for work on the government buildings, included reconstruction and renovation after the terrorist attack on 22 July 2011. The department has responsibility for all buildings, common services and infrastructure in the government quarter.

The Department for central government buildings, security and administrative services also has the responsibility for preventive security efforts related to common buildings, common areas and outdoor areas in the government quarter and in ministry buildings outside of this quarter. Exceptions are the Ministry of Defense and the provisional quarters of the Prime Minister’s Office. The department carries the responsibility for ICT security in the community of ministries. In addition, the department has the responsibility for the coordination of the security efforts in the ministries and the contact with the police and professional authorities.

Department for central government buildings, security and administrative services is responsible for agency management of the Government Administration Services (DSS). Common services and administrative support functions for the ministries, development of new work forms, and common services and administrative support functions for the ministries, rules and regulations for organizing and case handling in the ministries, also are included in the responsibility of the Department for central government buildings, security and administrative services.
