01.01.2014* Founding by merger
The overall objective of the Department of Planning and Administrative Affairs is to ensure the efficient operation and administration of the Ministry and the coordination of cross-sectoral research and development.
The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development is responsible for guidelines and policy development in many different fields, involving many different goals and instruments. The Department is responsible for coordinating these activities, and it therefore needs to know what is going on in all sections of the Ministry, so that it can present the political leadership with coherent solutions and a long-term approach to resolving issues. In addition to the three specialised departments, the Minister and Secretary General are the Department’s main users.
The Department fulfils the following five roles in relation to its users:
- secretariat for the political leadership
- service functions for the other departments
- coordinator and supplier of coherent solutions for the Ministry as a whole
- quality assuror
- driving force in the processing of cases
The Department’s activities cover a broad field. Its main task is to carry out the day-to-day operation of the Ministry, practise sound personnel management and policy, and ensure that the Ministry’s main responsibilities, such as coordination and work on the central government budget, are performed satisfactorily.
The Department plays an important role in ensuring that the Ministry is an attractive and competitive workplace that recruits and keeps competent employees and provides opportunities for professional development.
