The Civil Aviation Section has overall responsibility for the framework conditions for civil aviation and has both legal and financial means at its disposal. The Postal Services Section works to promote good, reasonable and future orientated services within postal communication. The Safety and Security Unit, which is located in the department, is responsible for co-ordination of The Ministry of Transportations’ work on safety and security, preparedness and crisis handling across the Ministry and towards the sector.

The section is also responsible for the procurement of non-profitable aviation and postal services and the procurement of coastal maritime services. The section is also responsible for co-ordinating and following up the Department’s EEA work in accordance with the Department’s EEA strategy. The section is also responsible for co-ordinating the Department’s international work.
